Date Night - Pyramid Restaurant

Hello Monday!  Did y'all have a good weekend?  Are you recovered from the Super Bowl Madness?  What a game! I cannot believe that my Patriots pulled off that win!  31 unanswered points.

Life Lately will return in a bit, but this Monday I am going to recap our date night Saturday night. I'm leaving next Saturday for a work trip to Florida so we decided to have our Valentine's Day night out this weekend.  I was approached by Pyramid Restaurant a little but ago.  Philip and I checked out the menu, it looked delicious, so we said ok!  And we were not disappointed.

How gorgeous are these earrings?  I am so glad we got a little fancy for date night as I have been waiting to wear these.  They are so light, you wouldn't ever guess by how big they are.  And I am in love with the ring.  Casual or dressy, it goes with everything.  I'll have a longer Stella & Dot post tomorrow.

If you are local to Dallas you need to go.  If you are visiting Dallas, you need to go.  Located at the Fairmont Hotel downtown, it's a short hop over to the AAC or the Music Hall at Fair Park or the AT&T Performing Arts Center.  We had no plans other than dinner, but we could see ourselves eating here again before an event.

Parking was fine.  You could valet at the hotel but there are also several self-park lots within a block's walk of the hotel/restaurant.  Don't let the fact that it's "downtown" deter you.  Parking was easy breezy.

I made a reservation using Open Table and our table was ready when we arrived.

We were seated by the wine vault and we had a great view of the restaurant.  Service was impeccable.  Our server was Gustavo and he was the absolute sweetest.  He checked in often enough that we weren't searching for someone to refill our glasses, but not so often that we felt he was being intrusive.

They have a great menu.  Not too many items that it feels overwhelming, but enough that they could satisfy just about any palate.  I'm not a steak person and I felt that there were plenty of options that did not include beef.

Calling all carb fanatics!  This is your part of the menu.  They had, hands down, the best bread basket of any restaurant in recent memory. #ignorethecrumbsonthetable

There was a lavash, a cheese stick that was almost croissant like, and my personal favorite, a chipotle flatbread.  Oh. My. Stars.  It was so delicious.  I could have eaten the bread and walked away happy.  As it was, the bread was not all that we ate.

We received a complimentary appetizer from the restaurant and we opted for the Pork and Apples.  Y'all, I felt like I was on Top Chef.  It felt like a deconstructed pork chops and applesauce.  There were pieces of crispy pork belly on a mustard sauce and candied apples with pecans.  I don't know what kind of apples those are.  I have never seen anything like them before.  It was perfection.  The pork belly melted in your mouth and the crisp sweetness of the apples worked well with it.

Because we ordered an appetizer, I knew I wanted something light for dinner.  I ultimately went with the Pyramid Salad.  Gustavo was a bit dubious, "that's all?"  I think he was afraid I wasn't going to get enough to eat.  He offered that the kitchen could add protein if I wanted - chicken, shrimp, salmon, beef, basically anything they had back there.  He barely had the word shrimp out of his mouth and I jumped on it.  The salad was quite tasty - greens, grilled shrimp, avocado, crispy chickpeas, candied pecans, currants, and a smoked onion vinaigrette.  It was light and the right choice for me after the appetizer

Phillip got the steak which he said was cooked perfectly.  It came with garlic mashed potatoes and microveggies.  When we saw that on the menu we assumed it was like microgreens or something. Oh no, they really meant the world's smallest vegetables.  They look like doll house food, right?

He didn't care.  He thought his meal was delicious.  So delicious, he twisted my arm and we split dessert.

Split might not be the best word.  I think I had three bites and he had the rest.  Chocolate silk pie with caramel on a pretzel crust and whipped cream.  The pie was good and the whipped cream was heavenly.  Not too sweet.  The caramel was a little sweet for my taste, but overall a good dessert.

One happy couple.  Pyramid made our Valentine's night out!  Delicious food, nice ambience, great downtown location.  We will definitely be back again.

I'm adding a new blog post to my weekly rotation - Tuesday's will be devoted to Stella & Dot, so if you are interested in some fun jewelry finds, come back tomorrow!
