Life Lately

As you may have been able to tell by my extended absence from blogging, life lately has been a little hectic.  Mainly due to work.  Crazy times at the office meant that when the weekend would come around, I had no energy to pour into blogging.  Things have started to even out a bit though and I have had a little more time on weekends and I miss connecting with you all!  Thank you for your patience with me.

Here's a peek into what's been going on the past few weeks.

Stranded: Famous People

It's time for another edition of Stranded With...  I'm linking up with Shay and Erika to talk about three things I would take if I were stranded on a deserted island.  This month we're discussing which famous people we would want to be stranded with.

JK Rowling 

I would want to discuss Harry Potter with her and could probably talk her ear off about it the entire time we were stranded.  I would also want to ask her about her writing process.  I've always wanted to write a book but it seems like a daunting task to get started.  And then we'd talk more Harry Potter.

Queen Elizabeth II

I was a History major in college and I've always been a bit of a royals watcher.  I would definitely take the chance to sit down and have a chat with QEII about her life, her reign, and all of the history she has seen.  And then I'd ask about her grandkids and great grandkids because I get the sneaking suspicion that she is a doting grandmother and I'd want to hear all about Prince George's shenanigans.

Lin-Manuel Miranda 

I would totally hop on the Hamilton bandwagon and want to be stranded with Lin-Manuel Miranda.  Along the same lines I would want to know about his process and how he pulled Hamilton together and then I'd ask him to sing all the songs from Hamilton for JKR, QEII, and me!  We could have a Hamilton sing-along.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 30

Here it is - the last day, last challenge, last song. Today's challenge - my favorite song at this time last year. Hey, Soul Sister by Train. I still like this song, I haven't grown too tired of it. Love the band. One of the best concerts I've ever been to was Matchbox Twenty and Train at Jones Beach. They were amazing.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 29

Today's challenge was another fun one. A song from my childhood. There are so many songs from my childhood. I grew up in the 80s so there's lots to choose from. I'm going to go with something from New Kids on the Block. They were the first concert I went to. The Right Stuff - New Kids on the Block.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 28

A song that makes me feel guilty. Well, I already admitted to my love of Britney Spears. What other guilty pleasure is out there? I'm trying to think of other CDs I own that I would cringe over other people knowing about. How about the Grease 2 soundtrack. Yup. I own it. I LOVE this movie.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 27

Today's challenge was slightly easier than yesterday's - a song that I wish I could play. I really would love to learn to play the piano. I've always wanted to learn. I think it's such a beautiful instrument. As far as classical music goes, I've always been partial to Beethoven. I would love to learn to play Pathetique.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 26

Today's challenge was hard - a song you can play on an instrument. I don't currently play an instrument. I used to play clarinet a long long time ago back in elementary school. I don't remember many of the songs. My sister used to have a keyboard that you could slide a disk into and you could follow the lights on the keyboard to play a song. She had a Beatles disk so I learned to play Hey Jude. As long as I could follow the lights it sounded okay.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 25

This one was fun. The challenge for Day 25 was a song that makes you laugh. I immediately thought of Cupid's Chokehold by Gym Class Heroes. This song makes me grin every time I hear it.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 24

A song you want played at your funeral. Kind of morbid. This one was hard. No one really wants to think about their death, or dying. Hmmm. I Will Remember You by Sarah Mclachlan is a really pretty song and one of my all time favorites.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 23

Today's challenge was kind of fun - a song you want played at your wedding. I've had this one in my head forever. I'm a single girl, I love thinking about what-ifs in the event that I someday actually get married. Sara Evans - I Could Not Ask For More.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 22

Today's song was hard - one that I listen to when I'm sad. I'm not sad a lot, and as I said in a previous post most of my music listening happens in the car. I'm not one to listen to music at home when I'm in a particular mood. On the occasion I am sad and I happen to be in the car, I turn to Don Henley - End of the Innocence.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 21

On the 21st day...a song I listen to when I'm happy. The first thought that popped into my head was Amy Grant - Good For Me. Just the melody alone sounds happy, and the lyrics are cute too.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 20

Today's challenge is a song that I listen to when I'm angry. Since most of my music listening happens in the car, I try not to get too angry when I drive. There are times though when I come out of work super stressed and feel the need to blast something good and loud on the radio. I find that You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette works well on those occasions.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 19

Some of these are so difficult! Especially when it comes to picking a favorite. I love love love music, so it's hard to pick a favorite. Today's challenge is a song from my favorite album. This would mean I need to pick a favorite album. So hard. So so hard. One of my favorite albums is Tonight & the Rest of My Life by Nina Gordon. It's one of those CDs where every. song. is. good. This is the title track off the album.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 18

Today's challenge is a song you wish you heard on the radio. I hear this song occasionally, but wish I heard it more. I think it's such a pretty song, and as I've mentioned earlier, I love Dido's music. I wish I heard White Flag on the radio more.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 17

The challenge for today is a song you hear often on the radio. I spend about an hour or so in the car every day and I listen to the radio most days. Sometimes I plug in my ipod instead, but it's usually the radio. A song I hear all the time on the radio is Adam Lambert, Whataya Want From Me. I'm not tired of it yet, but I'm getting there.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 16

So today it's a song I used to love but now I hate. This one was hard - as I mentioned in a previous post, there are few songs/groups that I hate. There are songs that I am tired of hearing them since they were so overplayed on the radio. One that immediately makes me change the radio station is Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie. Ugh, so overplayed I can't stand it. Not to mention everytime I see her, I think of Kids, Inc.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 15

It's kind of fitting that the song for today should fall on my birthday. Today's song is a song that describes me. I thought about this one for a little bit and then came up with Miss Independent by Kelly Clarkson. I can't help it - I love doing my own thing and being on my own.

30 Songs Challenge - Day 14

Today's song choice was fun too - a song no one would expect you to love. I love all kinds of music, I have a pretty eclectic collection. I could have gone in a bunch of different directions. California Love by Tupac, Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson. This one is probably a song that most would not think is in my library - Stripper, by the Soho Dolls.
