Hello all! I hope you enjoyed the long weekend. There's no Stella & Dot post this week, but there will be a What's Up Wednesday and a Friday Favorites post. Just a reminder that the Stella & Dot sale ends today! Last week I posted about my favorites from the sale. Check it out before the sale ends!
Now, on to date night! Phillip, being the amazing guy that he is, took me to New York City for my 40th birthday. We had so much fun. It was his first time to the city and he just fell in love with it. Here's a peek at our date night/weekend away to NYC!
We woke up to this when our alarm went off at 3:30am. Originally our flight was going to leave at 6:30am. Wah wah wah. Not how we wanted to start the day. After a frantic half hour of trying to get a hold of an agent, we were able to get on the 5pm flight. Not ideal, as we were essentially losing all day Friday, but American let us move to a later flight on Sunday at no charge to try and cram in a few more hours in NYC.
Since our early morning flight was canceled, I signed up for a barre class and snuck in a workout.

I LOVE my new Getaway bag. It is the perfect size for a weekend away. It fit all the necessities and was super cute to boot! I just love the elephant print.
Ready to go! Fortunately even though we were rebooked, they were able to seat us together! And the flight to LaGuardia was super super smooth. Probably the smoothest flight I've ever been on. Which meant I was able to concentrate on what I had downloaded from Netflix.
Have any of you watched Anne with an E yet? I thought it was so so good. I wouldn't recommend it for young children. It wasn't as polished as the 1985 version. This one was a little grittier and probably more accurate a reflection of how hard a life Anne had before she arrived at Green Gables.
And the cast! So so good. I was hooked from the first minute. I binged the whole season on the way there and back.
We stayed at the Park Lane Hotel. Lovely accommodations - our room was pretty and elegant. We were right next to Central Park and were excited about being so close to everything.
Saturday morning - we were ready to explore! We headed out around 8am. We had breakfast reservations at 9 over on the Upper West Side and we wanted to take our time getting there.
We made our way through Columbus Circle and on to Lincoln Center. We had tickets for a broadway show Saturday night, but for half a second I wished I had thought to say let's get tickets to the ballet. It was a beautiful morning to walk around. Vendors were setting up stands to sell fruit, sidewalks were being cleaned, the air was crisp, and you could see the city start to wake up.
We loved the Upper West Side, with it's tree lined side streets.
We had a delicious breakfast at Sarabeth's. I had the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and Phillip had an omelette. We both enjoyed our meals. After breakfast we wandered down through Times Square.
We saw where the Colbert Show tapes.
My favorite broadway show of all time is back on broadway, so of course I snapped a picture.
Our first pass through Times Square was early enough that it wasn't crazy crowded yet. When we wandered back through later in the day it was wall to wall people. So so crazy. I'm glad we were able to take our time through the first time we passed through to look at everything we wanted to.
And then we were off to Grand Central. The architecture there is breathtaking.
And of course, we had to stop for a black & white cookie while we were there. I mean, it was Phillip's first time in NYC, and we had to do it properly.
We wanted to see as much of New York as we could, and we had a 1:00 time at the 9/11 Museum so we decided to walk to Lower Manhattan. Yes, we walked there and back! I'm so glad we did though. We got to see the New York Public Library.
And the Empire State Building!
And we got to see the Flatiron Building too! We walked through Tribeca and Soho and the Village. I'm so glad we did.
We spent some time at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. It was beautiful and tragic and heavy. I've written about my 9/11 story before and so there were parts of the museum that really left an impression and brought some emotions to the surface.
There was a lot to see and take in.
At one point, on the ground floor, there is a fire truck and it feels so real. It was the actual truck from that day that was at ground zero. And you look at it and you feel like it can't be real, that it came off a movie set or something.
After the 9/11 Museum we were in the market for something to lift our mood and you can't do better than the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop for that. I had the Salty Pimp cone and Philip had the Monday Sundae. My cone was so so good. And the perfect treat.

This is the same dress I wore for our dinner out last April. It packs so well because of the type of material the dress is. I didn't have to iron it and was able to just pop it on. And it's comfy too! I knew it was a good choice for dinner out and then a show after.
We had a pre-theatre dinner reservation at Il Tinello. And oh my stars. It was so so good. The service was top notch and the food was incredible. I had the ravioli special for the evening which was porcini ravioli with saffron sauce. Um, yum. Philip had chicken with prosciutto and fontina and he loved it. They have the option of doing the antipasto table side which I thought was charming and they also make Caesar salad tableside. And then there was the dessert cart. I had the tiramisu and he had the cream puffs with chocolate sauce. I highly recommend Il Tinello if you are looking for a great dining experience.
Then it was off to the Boradhurst Theatre to see Anastasia. You guys. It was so good. I was moved to tears several times. The cast was phenomenal! And the costumes! One of the things I studied in college was Imperial Russian history, particularly the fall of the Romanov dynasty and this show just knocked it out of the park for me. Phillip enjoyed it too! We had amazing seats and just enjoyed the whole experience.
We started our last day in NYC with breakfast at a.cafe across the street from the Park Lane Hotel in the AKA Hotel. This vanilla cappuccino was delicious and the perfect start to the day.
And then we were off! First up - St. Patrick's Cathedral! Such architecture. It was breathtaking.
After St. Patrick's we wandered around Rockefeller Center. We saw where the Today Show tapes. It's fun to see these little aspects of pop culture.
We headed back to our hotel to check out, we asked the bell station to keep our bags and we ventured out to Central Park!
We wandered around, saw the Zoo and the boathouse. And we had our celebrity sighting of the trip - we saw William H. Macy! he was just doing his thing in the park. I think he had just finished a run.
Since it was there, and so were we, we ventured into the Met. We weren't there long enough to see everything. There's so much to see! But we saw the Lehman Wing and the American Wing and the Byzantine exhibits and the Egyptian art too.
And because we hadn't yet seen enough, we headed to the Upper East Side in search of lunch. After that it was back through Central Park to our hotel and we departed for the airport.
We crammed so much into our little trip. We covered over 20 miles on foot! And we loved every minute of it. We will definitely go back again some day. We LOVED New York City.
That was our epic date night experience in New York! Hopefully you were inspired for some of your own travels. Come back tomorrow for What's Up Wednesday!!!
