Date Night Recap - The Highland Dallas/Knife

Back in April we stayed at The Highland for Phillip's birthday.  I recapped that here.  We had a fun night, despite the hiccups with the restaurant.  We were still able to celebrate, but The Highland wanted to make it up to us.  Shortly after we got home, I received an email from the hotel manager apologizing for the inconvenience and offering us a complementary stay and a credit to eat at Knife.  Um, yes.  We will have a do-over.  And we did, we looked at our crazy calendars and decided on this weekend.

We had some errands to do on Saturday before we headed into Dallas.  I wanted to be comfy but put together and this was the perfect time to break out thisone shoulder top from Loft.  It is so soft and comfy and it was so hot in Dallas yesterday that this was a great choice to pair with denim shorts and my Birks.

Before we hit up the grocery store, we stopped by the house to see if there had been any progress and wow!  We have a slab!  Yay!!!  This means they should start framing soon.  Squeee!  Pinch me.

I had a Stella & Dot online show and once that wrapped up we headed downtown to The Highland.  We got all checked in and got into the elevator to head up to our room.  Isn't this cool?  The whole aesthetic of the hotel is kind of modern-cowboy-texas and I love it.

We opened the door to our room and y'all, they upgraded us to a King suite.  Oh. My. Stars.  It was gorgeous.  I wish we were there for longer than just one night.

How cute is this dress?  I snagged it at Target.  I don't usually go for such a bright color, but the pleats and the pink were too pretty to ignore.  It paired perfectly with my Taj clutch.

We were ready for dinner!  For months we had been looking forward to eating at Knife.  I was so disappointed the last time when the restaurant had to close.  We had no problems this time though.  We took the elevator down to the first floor and we were seated right away.  Our waiter was the sweetest guy.  We ordered cocktails and perused the menu.

Decisions, decisions!  Not only did they bring over bread, but they brought over a crudité tray with celery, yellow carrots, endive, and radish served with green goddess dressing.  It was all presented very well.

Phillip ordered the world's largest steak.  Not really, it was a 24oz rib eye and he said it was one of the best he's eaten.  He said it was cooked and seasoned perfectly.  He paired it with the roasted okra.  #nothanks #hecanhavealltheokra

I had the pimento cheese burger with onion rings.  Oh it was good.  The burger was cooked perfectly and was so juicy and the pimento cheese.  So delicious.

We ordered the chocolate and coffee dessert (upper right) and they brought out three of their desserts.  Sweet!  We were happy to try all of them.  And y'all, with the mousses, the gelees, the mini merengues, and what not, we felt like we were on an episode of Top Chef or Chopped.  The pink dessert was a strawberry mousse with basil gelato and yuzu gelee.  Phillip was meh on the basil gelato but I thought it paired with the strawberry mousse very well.  The upper left was an almond orange concoction and we both really liked that.  The chocolate and coffee dessert was absolutely delicious - chocolatey without being overly sweet.

And then...the pastry chef sends over some bite size selections - a salted caramel and chocolate macaron, a brownie, a peach gel (like a gum drop), and a house made mint.

We loved the whole experience.  I am so glad that we finally got to eat there.  If you are in Dallas and looking for an amazing place to stay - check out The Highland.  Impeccable service and beautiful rooms, you will not be disappointed.  And then...have dinner at Knife.  Especially if you are a steak person.

Thank you Highland and Knife for giving us a do-over on our date night from April.  It was everything we were looking forward to and more!
