Hi all! I'm back. I didn't mean to take a mini break from posting but it's been a doozy of a couple of weeks.
A week ago last Thursday, I smashed my foot into the bathroom closet door. I thought for sure I had broken my foot and not just my toe. Friday morning, after not sleeping at all Thursday night because the pain was so bad, I hobbled over to the ER. Just a broken toe, but I broke it good. Then I left on Sunday for LA. I was hoping to be able to explore more of the city, but between being 6 months pregnant and the broken toe...I ended up staying close to the hotel and convention center. All of that and the travel meant I was wiped out and I opted out of blog posts to give myself some extra rest time.
But I'm back now!
Baby is about 1.5 pounds and the size of a cauliflower! He is really moving around this week. I've got my glucose test on Thursday morning (fingers crossed that I pass) and then on Sunday we have the tour of the hospital.
There are days when I still can't believe I'm pregnant and that Baby Fisher will be here in about 3.5 months! The nursery is about halfway there. We need to find some artwork for the walls and we're waiting on the crib and the rocker to be delivered.
This rascal. Crazy pants running around one minute and then all snuggled up with me the next. After 14 years of owning cats that were not interested, I am enjoying soaking in all her snuggles. She really is sweet (when she's not going full-kitten).
Yup, that's my toe. See that nice break? I'll spare you the picture of the bruising. Ay ay ay.
I am normally not a great flier. I hate flying but recognize that it gets me places I need to go, so I suck it up and do it. The flying gods were on my side this trip. Southwest granted me pre-boarding both ways due to the pregnancy/injured foot issue, the flights there and back were so smooth that I was able to nap a bit on both (that hardly ever happens), and both flights we took off on time.
The conference hotel was the JW Marriott at LA Live. Initially I had the thought to book a spa session while I was there, but one of the great perks of the spa at the Ritz-Carlton is you get to use the amenities of the spa the day of your treatment - sauna, whirlpool, etc. Being pregnant, I can''t do any of that so it would have felt like a waste of the increased prices to partake. Sigh.
The hotel itself was gorgeous. Very modern. Excellent service as one would expect from the JW. We stayed at the JW Grande Lakes in Orlando last year and that one was just bigger and more opulent. The decor was vastly different - but they also have more space. More acreage means more space to do stuff architecturally. This one has a very small footprint in downtown LA. I thought it was gorgeous for the space they had to work with. We'll be at the JW San Antonio Easter Weekend and I'm excited to see what that one is like too.
The conference was at the LA Convention Center which is downtown where LA Live, the Staples Center, Grammy Museum, and Microsoft Theatre are. It was a nice area and there was always something going on at the Staples Center.
Mr. Fisher is not a fan of eating on patios/eating outside so when I travel solo for work and the weather cooperates, I take the opportunity to eat outside when I can. The weather was so gorgeous while I was there.
One of my favorite sessions at the meeting I attended was about data visualization. I was intrigued because I kept hearing about data visualization and it was exciting to dip my toe into those waters. I'm looking forward to being able to use some of what I learned.
This one was super excited I was home. She greeted me at the door, napped with me after I unpacked, and basically would not leave my side for the rest of the day and slept in bed with me for longer than she usually does.
I finished Marilla of Green Gables while I was away. And whipped through The Suspect pretty quickly. This is the third in Barton's Kate Waters series and it was just as good as the first, The Widow. If you like a well told story with some unseen twists coming, read this series.
When Mr. Fisher and I lived in Las Colinas (oh how I miss living there), Andalous restaurant was a place we frequented. I cannot even describe how good their food is and I could eat their fresh pita and babaganouj every day. They opened a location in Arlington and my boss, my new admin, and I ate there the other day. It was as good as I remembered. I will definitely be back. I think when my parents come to visit after Baby Fisher arrives, we might take them there to eat one night. It's so so good.
What have you all been up to lately?
