Stranded! Christmas Movie Edition

Can you believe we're here?  The last edition of Stranded! for the year.  I'm so glad Shay and Erika started this series, it's been a lot of fun thinking about what I would like to have with me if I were ever stranded on a deserted island.  In keeping with the holiday spirit, this month the theme is Christmas movies!  Because why wouldn't you want to watch a Christmas movie if you were stranded on an island.  And, if I were to be honest, I would watch any of these movies at any point in the year, not just during the holidays.  So which ones would I pick?  Let's start with my favorite of the bunch.

I love this movie.  I love this movie so much.  The cast! Oh my gosh, Emma Thompson, in that scene where she is alone in her bedroom trying to pull herself together.  Heartbreaking.  And so quotable!  "There was more than one lobster at the birth of baby Jesus?"  And of course, Hugh Grant dancing through 10 Downing Street.  As an Anglophile, this movie hits all the right notes for me.

A close second for me would be The Holiday.  First off - I adore Kate Winslet.  And she shines in this one.  I want to be bets friends with Iris.  And Jude Law is so swoon worthy in this one.  Again, as a lover of all things British, this one hits all my requirements - bucolic English countryside?  handsome English gentleman with cute accent?  I love it.  And to be fair, I also am in awe of Cameron Diaz's house in this movie.  I'm not normally a huge Cammy D fan, but I really enjoyed her performance in this one.

I was living outside of Boston when Elf premiered in 2003.  My roommate at the time came with me to see it.  I kid you not, we laughed so hard we were crying with tears streaming down our faces.  We could not stop.  My joy and happiness with this movie has not abated in the 13 years since it came out.  And as an aside - for real?  Elf has been out for 13 years????  Son of a nutcracker!  Where did all those years go?  But I digress...I love this move.  And again, like with Camerone Diaz, I am not a huge Will Ferrell fan, but he totally makes this movie.

Those are my picks, what would you choose if you were stranded on an island and could only watch three Christmas/Holiday movies?

Come back Friday for Friday Favorites!  See you then...

Stranded! Outerwear Edition

Welcome to this month's edition of Stranded With...this linkup is hosted by Shay and Erika.  Here's the premise - if you were stranded on a deserted island which three items would you take?  Each month there's a theme.  Last month was Halloween Candy - yum!  This month, the theme is outerwear.  You're going to have to suspend reality for a bit because most people think of being stranded on an island as a tropical experience and you would not need outerwear.  So, let's pretend we're stranded on Greenland, shall we?

Okay.  Here are my three pieces of outerwear that I would need to have with me.

One

The puffer vest!

blue puffer
tweed puffer
hooded puffer
asymmetric zip puffer
orange puffer
suede trim puffer

I love me a puffer vest.  Here in Texas it is rare that I have to pull out the heavy duty winter gear.  And there is nothing cuter than jeans, a long sleeve top and scarf, and a puffer vest.  There are so many options to choose from!

Two

Any Scandal watchers out there?  Who hasn't swooned over Olivia Pope's wrap coats?  If I were stranded on a cold deserted island I would definitely want one of these to bundle up in.

Tahari Wrap Coat

I had a coat very similar to this one last year and I wore it twice.  And then I left it at a meeting never to be seen again #sob #iwasheartbroken #stillam

Three

And rounding out the top three, I would have to go with my beloved three quarter zip pullover.  I love these jackets.  I wear them all the time in the winter, especially on my way to the barre studio or the gym at the apartment complex.  So comfy and they keep you warm.  In Texas it's all about the layers.

north face pullover
calvin klein pullover
under armour pullover
nike pullover
north face pullover
under armour pullover

What would you take with you if you were stranded?  Thanks for joining me this time!  December's theme is Christmas movies!  Make sure you come back for that one and come back on Friday for this week's edition of Friday Favorites.

Stranded! Halloween Candy Edition

Oh I am so excited about this month's edition of Stranded With...Halloween Candy!  So here's the premise of Stranded With...what three things would you take if you were stranded on an island.  October is my favorite month and one of the reasons for that is because of Halloween.  Candy, costumes, trick or treaters, I love it!

So what three Halloween Candies would I want on a stranded island?

We'll start with my favorite

I LOVE Hershey's Kisses.  I can't keep them in the office or I will eat them all.  I love to let them melt in my mouth like a hard candy and let the chocolate melt.  Hands down the way to my chocolate loving heart is with Hershey's Kisses.

Runner up to the Hershey's Kisses is the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.  I love the salty/sweet of the chocolate and peanut butter.  So delicious.  These don't make it into the office either, otherwise they disappear way too quickly.

And rounding out the top 3 is Kit Kat.  Crispy, chocolate-y, and delicious.  Hopefully there's refrigeration on this deserted island otherwise all this chocolate would melt and that would be not be good.

What three Halloween Candies would you want if you were stranded on an island?

Stranded! Movie Edition

This Wednesday I'm linking up with Erika and Shay for their Stranded series.  If you've been following along I've talked about what shoes I would bring and what books I would bring if I were stranded on an island.

This month?  Movies!  Gosh this was hard.  I love movies and picking just three and knowing that these were the only three and I would be watching them over and over and over...tough choices my friends.

Here's what I finally decided on:

The 1995 BBC version only, please.  Yes, I admit I am a snob about my P&P adaptations.  In my opinion, this one is perfection and has held up even 20 years later.  So good.  Jennifer Ehle as Lizzie Bennet is the best decision ever and don't even get me started on Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.  This movie has been in my permanent rotation since college when I taped it (yes, on a VCR) in my college dorm room freshman year.  I wore that tape out y'all.  My college housemates called it my drunk movie.   Not that there was any drinking involved, but I'm not one for large crowds or lots of people I don't know, so I tended to abstain from a lot of the college parties or I was on duty (raise your hand if you were an RA!).  My default on those nights when my housemates were out and I was home, I'd watch this.

Please, please, please tell me you all have seen Clue?  "Flames, on the side of my face..."
If Pride and Prejudice had the perfect cast, then the casting of Clue was INSPIRED.  Tim Curry as the butler, Wadsworth?  And Madeline Kahn alone as Mrs. White is worth watching the movie for.  Funny, campy, eminently quotable, you will not be disappointed with this movie.

Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America in one place?  Sign me up.  And don't forget that badass Black Widow.  I am all in for superhero movies and I never tire of The Avengers.  Or any of those Marvel movies:  Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers II, Iron Man.  All of them could easily make this list.  I love the interplay of all the characters in this one, especially with all the screen time Loki gets.

Those are my picks...what would you go for?  Share in the comments!

Stranded! Footwear Edition

It's time for another edition of Stranded!  I'm linking up with Shay and Erika on this one.  This month we're talking about which shoes we would want if we were stuck stranded on an island.

The first one is easy!  My reefs:

I don't care which ones you pick.  Reefs are incredibly comfortable and last and last.  The pair I have now has gotten me through at least 3 summers of heavy wear.  If you don't own a pair of reefs, you should. #trustme

For hiking and climbing around the island, I would have to go with these:

Skechers Go Walks.  Oh my goodness, these are the most comfortable shoes I own.  We're going to Disney in about 6 weeks and I am packing both of my pairs of Go Walks.  They are so comfy and they wash well.  I just throw mine in the wash with my workout clothes and let them air dry - good as new.

If you're stuck on an island, you need to have a good pair of running shoes.  A few years ago I was fitted for running shoes and I walked away with a pair of Brooks.

Since I have been fitted I have not had any knee pain or shin splints, two things that used to plague me before.  They are so comfortable.  Mine are Ravennas, but they have a bunch of other styles as well.

So there you go - the three pairs of shoes I would want to be stranded with.  What would you pick?

Come back on Friday - I'll be talking about my favorite books, movies, and tv shows of the summer!  Enjoy the rest of your week.

Stranded: Famous People

It's time for another edition of Stranded With...  I'm linking up with Shay and Erika to talk about three things I would take if I were stranded on a deserted island.  This month we're discussing which famous people we would want to be stranded with.

JK Rowling
I would want to discuss Harry Potter with her and could probably talk her ear off about it the entire time we were strandedI would also want to ask her about her writing process.  I've always wanted to write a book but it seems like a daunting task to get started.  And then we'd talk more Harry Potter.

Queen Elizabeth II

I was a History major in college and I've always been a bit of a royals watcher.  I would definitely take the chance to sit down and have a chat with QEII about her life, her reign, and all of the history she has seen.  And then I'd ask about her grandkids and great grandkids because I get the sneaking suspicion that she is a doting grandmother and I'd want to hear all about Prince George's shenanigans.

Lin-Manuel Miranda

I would totally hop on the Hamilton bandwagon and want to be stranded with Lin-Manuel Miranda.  Along the same lines I would want to know about his process and how he pulled Hamilton together and then I'd ask him to sing all the songs from Hamilton for JKR, QEII, and me!  We could have a Hamilton sing-along.

Who's on your list?  Who would you want to be stranded with?

Come back Friday for Friday Favorites, I'll be showing my favorite items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
