Working From Home - How I Work Out

When Coronavirus hit, I felt I had just gotten my feet back under me after returning to work from maternity leave.  We had a good routine down and it was working pretty well.  I had gotten into the habit of getting up at 4am to work out before Henry would get up.  This way I'd be showered, dressed, and ready to go before he wok up and started his morning routine.

Life Lately

Y'all.  It's been a minute, hasn't it.  Let me start by saying I have missed blogging so much.  It's so crazy though.  My last post was last October!  Which was right before I went back to work after maternity leave.  It really took a while to find my stride work wise - balancing working full time with being a wife and mother.

And then we got to March.  My beloved grandmother passed away and right after that is when all of the chaos from COVID started to ramp up.  Mr. Fisher and I are fortunate enough to work in industries where we were able to work from home.  We pulled Henry out of day care for awhile and hunkered down here in TX, only going out to pick up groceries.

That was our life until the beginning of May.  Mr. Fisher went back to the office and Henry went back to day care.  I am still predominantly working from home and going into the office one day per week.  I'll do a separate post soon about what my work from home life looks like, but we are making it work, which is good for our students.

Friday Favorites - Workout Gear

Happy Friday, Friends!  I have been all off this week on what day it has been.  With traveling, and being on leave, I have lost track of days several times.

I have recently gotten back into a workout routine and nothing gets you motivated to workout like new gear, right?  I'm highlighting some of my favorites today.

Friday Favorites

TGIF!  I am looking forward to a mostly low key weekend - how about you?  I've got a facial scheduled, a family birthday party, and an Ikea trip lined up, but other than that, I'm looking forward to some down time.

Since Wednesday's post was all about Pregnancy and Fitness, I thought for Friday Favorites this week, I would highlight some of my favorite workout gear right now that is working for me as I'm around the 18 week mark.

Fitness & Pregnancy

Let's talk fitness today.  One of the things I am most nervous about this pregnancy is weight gain and staying active.  I already think about post-partum and how to lose the weight.  After losing 100 pounds, maintaining a healthy weight will always be at the forefront of my mind.

Friday Favorites - Workout Gear and a Giveaway!

Happy Friday Y'all!  It was a pretty good week - I got a workout in 4 out of the 5 workdays this week.  That has not happened in awhile!  And it felt good.  Having the treadmill in the house has been so good for us and I have started mixing the 21 Day Fix workouts back into rotation.  I had really gotten off my workout routine the last couple of months.
Working out a lot means I need a variety of workout clothes.  Here are my recent favorites!

Life Lately

Hello!  Welcome to April and all the springtime goodness.  It's been awhile since I did one of these posts.  I thought I'd upload some pics of what we've been up to lately!

Friday Favorites - Valentine's Day Gifts

Who else is excited for Friday!  #raiseallthehands

The first week of class can be crazy, but I finally was able to get my travel squared away for a trip in February.  I get back from Nashville on February 14, which got me thinking about Valentine's Day and then I realized how close it is.  We probably won't celebrate until the weekend and I'm pretty sure we're going to The Keg.

During lunch today, I started browsing for gifts and here are my favorites that I found.

Life Lately

Well 2017 is just cruising right along, isn't it?  Work promises to be crazy this week.  I anticipate an uptick in the phone traffic in our international admissions office.  Politics aside, I will have some very concerned students who will have questions about their status and I unfortunately do not have a lot of answers.  Couple that with a very heavy week of meetings and I am counting down the days until my meeting in Florida in a couple of weeks.  Before I jump too far ahead though, let's catch up on what we've been up to around here lately.

I am on book 5 of my 50 book challenge.  My reading took a hit late in the week as I had a dental procedure done and just could not focus enough to concentrate on reading.

However, this book is good.  It's a biography of Vivien Leigh and I find it fascinating.

Tuesday I was at a meeting all day about the National Student Clearinghouse.  Part of my job is overseeing student records and the clearinghouse is just that - it'sa clearinghouse of student records regarding enrollment and graduation.  The all day meeting was about what they are currently up to and new projects they have in the works.  #stayinformed

Casual office day - I had no meetings, so I was able to dress casually for the day.  I loved the look of the red gingham button down under the blue sweater.  Super cute and paired really well with my favorite kut from the kloth Catherine jeans and my grey booties.

We were good on the running last week.  We made it to the gym Tuesday and Thursday, woohoo!  #goals #wehadbeenstruggling

Here's to hoping we can do it again this week.

This was Thursday morning.  It was feeling like a statement necklace kind of day so I pulled out my Stella & Dot Sutton necklace and built my outfit around that.  It was a half day for me as I had a dentist appointment in the afternoon and since I was going to be sedated I changed into comfy cozy clothes as soon as I got home from work.

Thursday night I was a little groggy from the anesthesia and I'm a little hazy on the details of the episode, but I was committed to watching Top Chef.  I crashed pretty hard after it finished though.

And Friday it was a soft foods kind of day.  I was super sad about these mashed potatoes too.  I had a lunch meeting scheduled and had originally ordered a salad with grilled chicken, dried cranberries, walnuts, blue cheese, apples, grapes, and balsamic vinaigrette.  And I couldn't eat a bite.  #insertsadfacehere

Saturday morning we were up and at 'em to run the Hypnotic Donut 5K at Fair Park in Dallas.  Race shirts can be hit or miss, but I liked this one.  It was softer than I expected it was going to be.

The weather on Saturday morning was perfect.  In the low 40s with a breeze.  I thought it was perfect at least.  Phillip thought it was on the chilly side as evidenced by all the layers he had on.

The race was at Fair Park, which is where the Cotton Bowl is and where the Texas State Fair takes place.  It was a pretty flat course and took place entirely inside the park.  It was fun and they had donut holes at all the water stops (we did not partake).

So pretty!  #nofilter

And...I won!  It was a photo finish practically, but a win is a win and I'll take it!

I have been wanting these kate spade abalone studs for awhile now.  And they are finally mine!  Love them!  They look good with anything - dressed up, dressed down, a great earring for every day wear.

Sunday morning face time date with the little miss!  She was in a bit of a silly mood this morning.  Love her so much!

I had not been to mass in far too long, it was good to go back.  And a good Sunday too.  This Sunday's gospel was on the Beatitudes.  Blessed are the peacemakers, etc.  It was a good time to be reminded.

I have spent a long time finding a church that I liked.  I loved my hometown church growing up and Good Shepherd Catholic Community is the closest I've been able to come to the church I went to growing up in Rhode Island.  The building itself is a little more modern than I'm used to in a church, but as a whole, I really like it.

Sunday lunch around here tends to be grab and go, basically find whatever you want and make it work.  I stopped at Trader Joe's on the way home from church and picked up some pumpernickel pretzel sticks and wine country chicken salad.  A delicious little plate for very few Weight Watchers points (I think it ended up being 5 points total).

That's what we've been up to lately, what about you?  See you back here on Wednesday!

Friday Favorites - Hit the Pavement

Well hello there, Friday!  Nice to see you.  I am so looking forward to the weekend.  Aren't you?  I don't know about you all but this week has been crazy.  I do get to do one of my favorite things tonight though - hand out Halloween candy to trick or treaters.  My campus is holding an indoor trick or treat event for community children and I just love it.  They are so excited about being dressed up.

This week's Friday Favorites is all about running.  I've got a 5K next weekend and it's been awhile, so I'm anticipating being a little rusty.  I do love a good run though and part of a good run is good equipment.  Here are some of my favorites.

Shoes

Brooks Ghost Running Shoes

My first comment about shoes is GET FITTED.  If you are serious about running, go to a running store and have someone knowledgeable fit you for shoes.  It really does help.  My favorites are Brooks.  I switched to these after being fitted 4 years ago and I have never looked back. I also have not had any kind of knee or shin pain since being fitted. #shinsplintshurty'all

Some other good options

New Balance 940
Nike Pegasus
Nike Lunarglide
Saucony Hurricanes

Pants

Oh I am picky about my running pants.  I like them to have a back zip pocket for me to store my keys.  I don't trust the open pockets on the waistband.  If it's zipped, I know it's secure and not going anywhere.

lucy endurance running capris

These are hands down my favorite running pants.  I've worn them for years.  They wear and wash well, don't slip, have a back zip pocket, and are a good weight.  I love these running pants and I always reach for them first when pulling out running clothes.

zella heat it up running legging

I've spoken of my love of zella gear before, and if my lucys are in the wash, the zellas are the ones that come out next.  They are comfy and they meet all my criteria.  They aren't as heavy as the lucy option, but they are still a good pair of running pants.  And, they have the zip pocket, which is my #1 requirement.

Tops

zella racerback tank

It can get warm in Texas, so during the Spring and Summer months I always opt for a tank top when I run.  I love this one.  It's light weight and the back is pretty.

New Balance Racerback Tank

I love this one too.  Athletic material wicks away moisture, but the back gives it a little interest.  A great pick for running.

Jackets

It does get cooler in Texas.  I also run when I go home to visit, so it's always a good idea to have some items in your closet to pull on in case it's cooler.  I read in a running magazine that you should dress for 10 degrees warmer than it is outside.

zella resilience jacket

How darling is this one?  And, bonus, it's on sale (50%off!!!)  I love that is has holes in the cuff for your thumbs as I hate to run with gloves although I will if it's super cold.

zella Pop It Up jacket

How beautiful is that plum color?  It's almost too pretty to run in, right?

under armour pullover

I am also a huge fan of pullovers, like this Under Armour one.  I have more than 2 in my closet, and they are my go to option for an extra layer.

Those are my go-to options for a running wardrobe.  Slightly different than my barre favorites.

Stranded! Footwear Edition

It's time for another edition of Stranded!  I'm linking up with Shay and Erika on this one.  This month we're talking about which shoes we would want if we were stuck stranded on an island.

The first one is easy!  My reefs:

I don't care which ones you pick.  Reefs are incredibly comfortable and last and last.  The pair I have now has gotten me through at least 3 summers of heavy wear.  If you don't own a pair of reefs, you should. #trustme

For hiking and climbing around the island, I would have to go with these:

Skechers Go Walks.  Oh my goodness, these are the most comfortable shoes I own.  We're going to Disney in about 6 weeks and I am packing both of my pairs of Go Walks.  They are so comfy and they wash well.  I just throw mine in the wash with my workout clothes and let them air dry - good as new.

If you're stuck on an island, you need to have a good pair of running shoes.  A few years ago I was fitted for running shoes and I walked away with a pair of Brooks.

Since I have been fitted I have not had any knee pain or shin splints, two things that used to plague me before.  They are so comfortable.  Mine are Ravennas, but they have a bunch of other styles as well.

So there you go - the three pairs of shoes I would want to be stranded with.  What would you pick?

Come back on Friday - I'll be talking about my favorite books, movies, and tv shows of the summer!  Enjoy the rest of your week.
