Friday Favorites - Cozy Things

We made it to Friday and not a moment too soon!  While I love a long weekend, I also dislike the cramming of 5 days worth of work into 4 days.  But the weekend is upon us!

Amazon Finds!

With COVID, we have been online ordering more than usual.  I've had some really great finds on Amazon lately and thought I'd share what I've loved lately.

Amazon Lately

Let's be honest, getting out of the house with a newborn is challenging.  Many times I've asked myself, is it worth it to get him in the car seat and bring him into the store to get something?  Usually not, so my Amazon purchases ramped up a bit the last few weeks.  I've got some of my favorite Amazon finds here.

Friday Favorites - Amazon Finds

Hooray for Friday!  I don't know about you all but this week has been a doozy.  I think it is this terrible heat that we are dealing with in Texas.  I am looking forward to a low key weekend.  Dinner with Mr. Fisher and his parents on Saturday night and that's about it other than some errands/house stuff.

We recently bought a stick vacuum from Amazon and it is my favorite new thing.  I thought for Friday Favorites this week, I'd share some of my favorite Amazon finds.

Life Lately and More Nordstrom Faves

It has been a whirlwind few days around here.  We drove down to Galveston for the weekend and then after we got home Sunday, I had to drive down to Austin on Monday for a meeting on Tuesday, driving back to Dallas Tuesday night.  It was a lot of car time, but heading to Galveston was worth it!

Don't forget, the Nordstrom Sale is still on!  I've got all my favorites in last week's post. I'll also link some of my home decor favorites at the end of this post.  Before we get to the shopping though, here is a peek at what we've been up to lately!

Life Lately and a Surprise Trip!

Hello All!  I know this post usually goes up on Monday, but I have a great reason for not posting.  Mr. Fisher and I flew out to Rhode Island for the weekend to surprise my mama for her birthday.  And it worked!  She was so surprised.  I had to basically disengage from social media though regarding anything related to the weekend so she wouldn't be suspicious.

And that's why y'all get Life Lately on Wednesday.

Happy Birthday Mama!

Five for Friday - All the Cozy Things

Oh thank heavens it's Friday.  The first week back after break is tough.  We had crazy busy lines at our front counter, which was a blessing in disguise because it gave me ideas on how to improve how we provide some of our services.  But now it's Friday, and the weekend, and after 5, I don't need to worry about being all dressed up again until Monday.  Which has me dreaming of all the cozy things.

Y'all.  It has been COLD here in Texas.  Yes, yes, I know my Northeast readers just got a huge amount of snow dumped on them.  But I live in Texas for a reason - and that is so I don't deal with prolonged periods of cold.  Until now.  I had another post planned about skincare at 40, but I've pushed that to next Friday.  Right now, I want to talk about all the warm and cozy things.  Right?

Here are my favorite cozy things right now:

Winter Favorites - What I Get Asked About

It's the third day of 2018, aka Wednesday. Also known as the day I go back to work after Winter Break.  It's always a sad day.  I thought I'd cheer myself up by sharing with you all the items that I have been asked the most about you all the last couple of months.  And to be honest, they are a few of my favorites lately too!

Where I'm From, aka The Birthplace of Coffee Syrup

Isn't this a lovely picture of the Dallas Skyline?  I love it every time I catch a glimpse of it.  With as much as I love it, you would think I grew up here in the DFW area.  But I didn't.  The idea of living in Texas never even crossed my mind until 2010.  Texas is my adopted home but I grew up in the Biggest Little State in the Union - Rhode Island.

Home Favorites - Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Hello Friday!  I am so happy to see you.  The Anniversary Sale opens to EVERYONE today!  And my post on the house Wednesday has me mentally decorating all of the rooms.  For Friday Favorites today, I'm highlighting all of my home favorites from the Nordstrom Sale.  There are some great finds.

I LOVE these Voluspa candles.  They smell heavenly and are a great gift - stocking stuffers, teachers gifts, housewarming gifts, christmas gifts for your hairdresser, housekeeper, dog walker, babysitter.  Grab a few and keep them on hand.  You'll thank me later.

Our house, is a very, very fine house (so far)

Hello from Austin!  I am here for work the rest of this week.  This is my last big bit of travel until the wedding and I am looking forward to being close to home for the next few months.  Especially since they are making progress on the house and Phillip and I stop by pretty much every weekend.  Here's where the progress so far!

This is where we started back in February.  Woohoo!  We decided we were going to build.  We never imagined that's what we would be doing at that point, but we jumped in and haven't looked back.

Life Lately

Hi everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful July 4th holiday.  Ours was very low key, but very relaxing which is exactly how we like it.  This summer has been kicking my butt and I've been traveling or super busy most weekends and the summer hours at work are killing me during the week which means, I'm exhausted.  My plan for Friday was to sleep in a bit, but now I have to take Kate to the vet and she needs to be dropped off between 7:30 and 9.  Sigh.  So...what have we been up to lately?

Barre.  I still love Barre.  One of my favorite workouts.  Summer hours at work and all the travel are making it hard though.  Normally I get in 3-4 classes a week.  Lately it's been more like 2.  Which I hate.  After July, I should be back to my normal schedule.

This is my new favorite lunch.  These Thai veggie burgers from Trader Joe's are 4SP each and the sauce is 1SP for a tablespoon.  I will pair it with some leftover veggies or fruit for a very Weight Watchers friendly lunch.  And...the burgers are individually wrapped which makes packing them in my lunch bag easy.  #winning

Y'all.  Last week I did the impossible - I went into Target and I spent less than $5.00.  I didn't know that was a possibility.

Last Friday I had an appointment on my day off.  I love the dress, but I wanted a little more coverage for the meeting so I topped it with a white jacket and it worked perfectly.

The jacket makes it professional without the stiffness of a suit.  I love how it all came together.

After my meeting we relaxed on the couch for a bit.  She's been a little off her game lately and yesterday we noticed a lump at the base of her tail.  I'm taking her in to be seen on Friday and I hope everything is okay with my goofy girl.

When I can't get to barre, I try to get some kind of workout in.  On Friday I managed to get in a 21 Day Fix workout.  I've been doing these workouts for 2 years and I still enjoy them.

I snagged a couple of these while grocery shopping on Saturday.  I had a new recipe I wanted to try on July 4th.

These two.  Jack was just wanting to be snuggly and hopped up on the night stand.  That is normally Kate's perch when we go to bed and you can see her reaction to Jack stealing her spot.

On Sunday we were off to Canton!  Canton is home to First Monday Trade Days, the largest flea market in the US.  We were on the hunt for things for the house.  There are all kinds of things - antiques, refurbished items, handmade things, food, furniture, clothes, you name it.  It's enormous and fun.  And were we successful?

Yes we were!  We found this gorgeous table for our dining nook in the kitchen.  It is the perfect size and I LOVE the design.  We also found a couple of other things to hang on the walls - a key rack and a sign for above the pantry door.

I really wanted this guy for the yard but we wandered away thinking we'd come back for it but then couldn't figure out where it was (when I say this place is large, I mean LARGE).  Oh well...maybe next time.

We had to reconfigure the office a bit to store the table.  Which means this one is in her happy place.  She loves a high perch.

I took Monday as a vacation day and spent part of it working on wedding things, like thank you notes and invitations.  A lot of that busy work is taken care of.  Still so much to do, but we're getting there.

On Monday night we hit up the Red Sox/Rangers game!  We sat in our favorite section - up high behind home plate.  Texas ball games are HOT and sitting high up in that area affords shade and a breeze.  It was actually quite comfortable up there.  The Red Sox won - yay!!!  So I was happy and Phillip was a bit miffed.

Tuesday morning - July 4th - holiday!  We wanted to start the day off on a good note.  Phillip went for a run around the lake and I opted for the treadmill.  And then I forgot my keys on the treadmill when I walked out of the gym.  Our apartment complex is one of those that requires a fob for entry to every door and I was basically stuck.  It was early on a holiday, so no one else was around to let me in and I had to wait here in the hallway until Phillip finished his run.  #atleastitwasairconditioned

I am not normally a romper person, but this one!  Oh my gosh.  It's Lou & Grey from Loft and it is pretty much universally flattering.  So comfy and perfect for a summer holiday.  The plan was to run a few errands, make lunch, make dinner, make dessert, and watch fireworks.

ps - for those asking, this is the strapless bra I wear under all of my strapless, spaghetti strap, weird neckline tops.  It is hands down the best of the bunch.

Errand #1 - we stopped by the house.  Eeeks!  The framing is just about done.  It looks like a house now.  I want to move in tomorrow - ha!

Errand #2 - we had to stop at Kirkland's to pick up something I bought that was way to big for my Honda Accord.  I had to bring Phillip and the truck to get it home.  This is going in my office in the new house!  It took up the whole back seat.  I love the print though - it reminds me of summer in New England.

Lunch was one of our favorites, Pesto Pasta Salad.  And then I made this deliciousness for dinner.  Eggplant Rollatini.  It's only 6SP for 2!!!  Phillip and I both loved it.  It's definitely going into Sunday dinner rotation.

One of our July 4th traditions is that I make skillet brownies for dessert.  I make them in these adorable mini skillets.  Usually we have them with vanilla ice cream, but in trying to be healthier (and dairy free for me), we made banana "ice cream" instead.  We went with the chocolate peanut butter version and it was delicious, but nothing will ever compare to a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream.

The plan after dinner and dessert was to relax and then wander out to watch the fireworks on Lake Carolyn, but we were tired.  So we opted out of the fireworks and went to sleep.  It's hard when July 4th is in the middle of the week!  Knowing I was getting up at 4:40 to go to barre on Wednesday morning, all I kept thinking was that I was never getting to bed before 11 if we went out to the fireworks.  So we skipped it.  Oh well.  Maybe next year.  Saturday, I am off to Phoenix for 5 days as the summer of travel continues...

I'm Getting Married! Now, What Do I Wear To My Shower...

In T-Minus 2 days I will be flying home for one of my wedding showers.  With a lot of family up north, it made sense to do one back home and one here in Texas.  And since coordinating travel was required, this is not anything approaching a surprise.  Which is fine.  #ihatesurpriseparties

Y'all.  We are 4 months away from this wedding.  Yikes!  And EEEK!  And how about a SQUEEE!!!! for good measure?  I am so excited.  So much going on - wedding, house, hawaii...the rest of this year is going to fly by.  And first up in the wedding extravaganza is my shower.  The question remains...what to wear?  I know I want to wear a white dress, but there are so many great options to choose from.  Here are some that I am considering.

I love this pretty bell sleeve dress from Loft.  The cutout detail with the slight bell sleeves is perfect.  It's a simple dress with some fun interest in the details.  Definitely a contender.

I love a swing dress and this one from Loft is no exception.  The tassel detail is darling and the swing shape is an almost universally flattering silhouette.  Great for a Saturday morning brunch shower.

Another silhouette that works well for me is a shift dress.  I'm curvy, so dresses that tie around the waist can look bulky and not flatter my figure, but a swing dress, sheath dress, or shift dress work really well.  I've also had good luck with a fit and flare shape too.  When I saw this lace shift dress from Ann Taylor I knew it was going into consideration.

This pretty number from J. Crew might be my favorite of the bunch.  I love the eyelet detail and the bell sleeves.  What do you all think?

I think this J. Crew Factory linen cami dress is adorable and a great summer option that will get tons of wear all season long.

Of course I need to consider one of the hot trends of the moment - a one shoulder dress.  The ruffle trim is sweet and I think this J. Crew Factory dress would make a great option for a bridal shower.

I love the look of this dress.  I like the wrap detail and the ruffles, but as a curvy girl, there may be too much going on at the bust.  It's a maybe though.

This one might work better and I LOVE the accordion pleats on the skirt.  I love how flirty and feminine this whole look is.

Now to choose!  I love a pretty white dress in summer, so this is going to be a tough choice.  Which would you pick?
