What's Up Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!  And y'all, it's the last Wednesday of the month.  I can hardly believe it.  Where did August go?

Since it's the last week of the month, it's time to link up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday.

Here's a little peek into our world right now.

1.  What We're Eating

Lunches this week are my favorite salad!  Baby spinach, chicken, chopped dates, goat cheese, pecans, and croutons/corn bread crisps with balsamic vinaigrette.  So so good.

What's Up Wednesday

Y'all.  I need time to both slow down and speed up, is that possible?  It's the end of April!  I've got about 12 weeks left in this pregnancy and I'm both ready to meet the newest member of the Fisher house, but also not quite ready.  More excitement than fear to be sure, but 12 weeks feels awfully short.

As we slide into May and the high heat of summer, it's time for What's Up Wednesday!  Here's a peek into what we've been up to this month!

1.  What We're Eating This Week

Monday - the plan was soup, but it was Mr. Fisher's birthday and he wanted dinner out so we headed to Lazy Dog instead.
Tuesday - The Lazy Genius' Change Your Life Chicken
Wednesday - Pork Loin and Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Thursday - Salad
Friday - Caprese Turkey Burgers
Saturday - Dinner at Studio Movie Grill for Avengers: Endgame
Sunday - something before we head to Fair Park to see HAMILTON!

2.  What I'm Reminiscing About

Life Lately

Hello and Happy Monday!  We are halfway through July!  Can you believe it?  I was out of town most of last week and I am headed out to Austin on Tuesday.  Lots of exciting things this week though - I'll mention those at the end of the post.  But let's recap what's been going on with us lately.

Last Saturday I was off to Phoenix.  I had the morning free on Sunday so I took advantage of the slightly cooler temps and hung out at the pool.  It was HOT.

What's Up Wednesday

Can y'all believe it is almost July 4th!  Since it's the last week of June, that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday.  What's Up Wednesday is a peek into our life over the last month...here we go!

What We're Eating This Week

Monday - Zucchini and Bean Burritos
Tuesday - I'm meeting a college friend at Tortaco for dinner
Wednesday - Fish and Brussels Sprouts
Thursday - Grilled Chicken and Cauliflower
Friday - Turkey Burgers with Green Beans
Saturday - Not Sure Yet
Sunday - Not Sure Yet

What I'm Reminiscing About

dress | earrings

I am reminiscing about this past weekend!  I went home and my sister threw me a lovely wedding shower.  It was nice to celebrate with friends and family.  And hand with this cutie.

dress (similar) | knot earrings | wishing necklace | parker sunnies

And I got to hold this handsome fella.  Oh he is just too dang cute!  Those cheeks!  And he is just content to be held and loved on.

What I'm Loving

Sleep.  Seriously, I had a lot of crazy weekends in June and I am loving catching up on sleep.

What We've Been Up To

We've started to get wedding presents in the mail, which just solidifies for me that the wedding is AROUND THE CORNER.  Holy cow.

I went on a cruise to celebrate my 40th birthday!

We went on a date night excursion to The Highland and had a fantastic dinner at Knife.

We had date night at the movies and saw Wonder Woman (we loved it).

I've been trying to get my workouts in.  These summer hours are tough.  I'm over them already (summer hours, not my workouts).

We had a division retreat at work which I spearheaded.  It went great!  But I am excited to have my regular work life back.

I had a bachelorette party!  Nothing too crazy.  We went bowling and dancing and just had a fun night out.  It was more about the company than anything else.

What I'm Dreading

The next four weeks of summer hours.  Sigh.  I'm done with the longer days.  It just throws me off my whole routine.

What I'm Working On

Wedding invitations!  I have five days off this weekend and one of those days will be devoted to putting together invitations.

What I'm Excited About

I've got a Sample Sale coming up.  Mainly Stella & Dot, but a few other accessories as well.

I've also got a trunk show tomorrow night.  If you'd like to be added to either event, please email me at nichole@themrsfisher.com and I will add you!

What I'm Watching/Reading

Oh Eddie Izzard, how I love you.  I've seen him live three times and he is just phenomenal.  Wicked smart.  And so funny.  Look up his Cake or Death bit on YouTube.  Watch it now, I'll wait.  Great, right?  His memoir reads just like him and I can't put it down.

And then I binge watched all 7 episodes of The Keepers while traveling this last weekend.  I could not stop.  Compelling does not even begin to describe it.  Watch it.  It's heart breaking and fascinating and so well done.

What I'm Listening To

Podcasts!  As usual, ha!  I've recently added a few to my roster and now I am listening to tons.  Recently added are: Sorta Awesome, 30 for 30 (yes, like the tv series by ESPN), Stuff You Should Know, The Daily, and Up First.

What I'm Wearing

top | skirt | valencia tote | hammered hoop earrings | wishing necklace

embarcadero scarf | dress | mini hammered hoops

top | shorts | sandals | luna pendant | valencia tote | hammered hoops

dress | taj clutch | hammered hoops | essential fringe | sculpted x cuff

What I'm Doing This Weekend

We might go to Canton, we'll see.  Also, see the aforementioned wedding invitation assembly.  I also foresee lounging by the pool and reading.  And barre.  Of course.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month

A trip to Phoenix for work, also a trip to Austin where some of plan on going to Salt Lick.  I cannot tell you how excited I am about this. Finalizing the last of the wedding details!  And we're seeing the Red Sox play the Rangers.  #gosox

What Else is New

Not much - but for real, go check out The Keepers!

What's Your Favorite July 4th Tradition?

Our July 4 is usually low key.  We cook dinner at home and just relax then we head across the street to Lake Carolyn for the City of Irving Fireworks.  Because we live there we don't have to stress about parking or driving anywhere and the fireworks are good.  The Irving symphony accompanies and it's a nice night.

See you Friday for Friday Favorites!

What's Up Wednesday

Welcome to the first What's Up Wednesday of the new year!  That means that January is almost over.  I cannot believe how quickly this month has flown by.  February is right around the corner!

What We're Eating This Week

Sunday: caprese chicken and brussel sprouts

We've been trying some new foods and brussel sprouts have been on the list for awhile.  We made them Sunday night by roasting them with salt, pepper, olive oil, and garlic.  When they finished roasting I drizzled a little balsamic vinegar over the top. They were delicious.  I think next time I'd even skip the balsamic.

  • Monday night: Veggie Burrito Bowls.  It's one of our favorite Cooking Light recipes.
  • Tuesday night: fish and zucchini
  • Wednesday night: roasted pork loin with cauliflower rice and broccoli
  • Thursday night: Phillip is on his own, I'm having a dental procedure done and I'm thinking I won't be interested in dinner
  • Friday night: ground turkey sloppy joes
  • Saturday night: date night!  not sure yet where we're going
  • Sunday night: homemade veggie burgers

What I'm Reminiscing About

As we wrap up January, we are easing into race season.  Last year I did the Color Run with these ladies and I am so excited we're doing it again.  If you're interested, and are in the DFW area, you can find info here.

What I'm Loving

I am loving these make up remover wipes from Sephora.  One side is smooth and takes off the make up really well, including mascara.  The other side is for exfoliating.  My facialist yelled at me last time for not exfoliating enough and I thought the two sided wipe would help me remember!

What We've Been Up To

Barre, barre, and more barre.  I am so excited about the new schedule and the addition of a Sunday morning class.  I've been trying to make it on Sunday afternoons, but sometimes the day gets away from me and I don't make it.  A morning class means I'll get it in.

I try to FaceTime with this little miss every Sunday.  Sometimes she's chatty, sometimes she wants to dance, and sometimes she wants to watch tv.  But she always wants to push the red button when it's time to end the call.  My niece is an individual, smart and sassy, and dances to the beat of her own drummer.  I love our Sunday morning chats.

With the football playoffs and now the Super Bowl in full swing, we've been trying to find healthy snacks for the games.  Our go-to snacks of late have been Broccomole and Roasted Chickpeas.

Homework, homework, homework.  I am halfway through the second class in my program.  Four more to go.  Every 8 weeks I start a new one.

We've been enjoying the nice weather.  It was almost 80 yesterday!  Many nights we are able to keep the porch door open.

What I'm Dreading

Having to tell candidates they weren't selected for a position.  That's never fun.

What I'm Working On

Some blog stuff, a presentation for a conference I'm attending in February, a Valentine's Day gift for Philip...

What I'm Excited About

I'm presenting at a conference in February and it's in Clearwater, FL.  This means I get to pop in and see Auntie Lynn and Auntie Gerry!  Yay for family time #familytimeisthebesttime

What I'm Watching/Reading

I've recently started Vivien: The Life of Vivien Leigh.  I can't say how it is yet, since I'm only about 25 pages in.  She's one of my favorite old Hollywood actresses.  I've also recently read Empty Mansions, Daughter of Empire, and At the Water's Edge.  All are definitely worth picking up.

What I'm Listening To

Podcasts!  Check out last Friday's post for all of my current favorites.

What I'm Wearing

top | jeans | watch | bracelet

I love love love this ruffled cami top.  It looks great with pants or a skirt for work but it's also really cute with jeans.  I adore the ruffle detailing.

necklace | sweater

This is just a plain black sweater, but I love how the necklace pops against the black.

cardigan | top | skirt | boots | necklace | necklace | earrings

I love this cardigan.  It's great with this denim skirt and boots.  It's great with jeans, it's great over lounge pants, ha!

tank | leggings

Some of my favorite barre gear.  I love this tank.  It is super soft and comfortable.  And I can't tell you how amazing the Zella live in leggings are.  Perfect does not even begin to cover it.

What I'm Doing This Weekend

We have a 5K at Fair Park on Saturday.  Loser buys breakfast, ha!

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month

Traveling to Florida and seeing my aunts.  Valentine's Day.  Hopefully working on some projects at work and finalizing a hire for the office.  Oh, and MY PATRIOTS ARE IN THE SUPER BOWL!!!

What Else Is New

I finally got my rear in gear and contacted a florist for the wedding.  Woohoo!  This is the last big thing I need to book for the wedding.  We're meeting this afternoon.

This Month's Bonus Question: Who is Your Favorite Bachelor?

I don't really watch The Bachelor, so I'd go with Sean Lowe by default since he and Catherine live here in DFW.  I love Jillian Harris though, she's adorable on Instagram.

That's it for this month!  Thanks for checking in. Come back on Friday for Friday Favorites!

02 January 2017

Life Lately - Happy New Year!

Hello dear friends and Happy New Year to you all!  I didn't mean to take a week long hiatus, but we were enjoying some down time with my family back in New England and I couldn't tear myself away.  We had a fun and relaxing week in Rhode Island.  Here's a peek into what we've been up to...

My college closed for Winter Break on Friday, December 16.  That meant I had some time before we left on our trip to take care of some things.  Some of those things included dinner prep.  Roasted cauliflower is one of our standard side dishes with dinner.  Chop the cauliflower and toss with garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper.  Roast in the oven at 415 degrees for 24 minutes, turning the cauliflower over at the halfway point.  This is also how we roast our broccoli and our sweet potatoes.

One of my errands was to run by the jewelers and have my ring cleaned.  They jeweler has this ginormous ring in their entry way.  Every time I see it I think of the Big Blue Bug on I-95 in Providence. #rhodeisland

Apparently, at the ripe old age of 11.5, my cat has developed an acne problem.  My vet has recommended stridex.  Which in theory I think would be great, but in practice is not working.  Jack freaks out over the pads.  #sigh

I had some time before we left to make one of my mom's favorite treats to bring home to her - Ina Garten's Peanut Butter and Jelly bars.  These are so delicious and pair really well with a cold glass of milk.

We took the train to the airport.  We have a train stop outside our apartment so taking the train is a convenient and inexpensive way to get to the airport.  For real, it's $2.50 per person each way.  Compare that to $36 each way for two people on Super Shuttle, or $8/day for 8 days to park in a lot.

Thursday was the perfect day to fly.  I'm thinking most people were planning on flying on the Friday.  We breezed through check-in and security and had time to sit down in a restaurant and order dinner before heading to our gate.  We didn't feel rushed or pressure into grabbing something on the fly, we were able to take our time and relax.

We were flying JetBlue so we were able to watch all of that week's episode of Top Chef on the plane!  Yay!  Personally I'm rooting for Brooke and Shirley.

Friday we got to spend the day with this little miss.  We started by going to breakfast.  She colored and played with the jellies and creamers while Phillip and I ate.  We always go to the English Muffin in Johnston, RI.  They have the best home fries.

Then it was off to bowling!  We had a lot of fun.

There is nothing like the sheer joy of knocking down all the pins on the first try!

We had game night with my family that night.  My brother has virtual reality set up that was a lot of fun to try.  I hiked a little bit of Mt. Everest.  It was pretty cool.  We also played Yahtzee, which the little miss is pretty good at.

Saturday was Christmas Eve and we had a bunch of errands to run before heading to my Uncle's house that night.  We stopped for lunch at a local favorite, Chelo's.  Mainly we stopped there because I wanted chowder and clam cakes.  If you aren't local to RI, a clam cake is like a fritter.  It's savory fried dough with chopped clams in the batter.  I like to dunk mine in the clam chowder.  Phillip tried it.  He thought it was ok but wasn't something he would order on his own.  #moreforme

My sister arranged a meet and greet with Elena of Avalor for my niece.  This is my niece's favorite Disney character at the moment.  She knows all the songs and loves to play Elena.  She could barely contain her excitement when she came into the living room and Elena was there!

sweater | top | necklace (similar)

I am in love with this sweater!  And...right now (through January 3), it is 40% off!  the navy and purple work so well together.  I paired it with a button down, jeans, and boots and some fun jewelry.  We were all dressed up and ready to party!!!

We had such a good time at my Uncle's house.  Our favorite Christmas food and snacks, great company, tons of family, and I got to spend time with this little cutie.  Isn't he a sweetheart?  He's my cousin's little boy.  Such a doll and he has the best temperament.

That fella on the left is the father of said cutie pie.  He is one of my 8 million cousins.  Not really.  More like 20, but those 20 have lots of kids, so that stretches us to close to 40.  Not counting aunts and uncles.

Selfie with my mama on the left and Auntie Kim on the right.

cardigan | pajamas

After the party it was time to get into our jammies and get ready for Santa.

A very early Christmas morning called for a cup of coffee, or two...

It was fun to be there when the little miss opened her gifts.  She was excited about everything, especially the gifts she got for all of us.  She picked them out herself at 5 Below.  Phillip and I got hand sanitizer and t-shirts. Phillip's was a Minion shirt featuring her favorite Minion, Kevin.  Mine had Angelica from Rugrats.

We had a little time Christmas morning to squeeze in a run, so Phillip and I headed out to the local high school and made use of the track to get a couple of miles in.

After we got back from our run, little miss and I made a cake for GiGi (my grandmother, she calls her GiGi for great-grandmother).  Grandma's birthday is Christmas Day, so we baked her a chocolate cake.  My niece picked the icing color, of course.

After Christmas lunch we played Pie Face.  We all got hit.  Phillip...

My sister...

But my poor sister-in-law got hit the most.  I think she got hit 5 or 6 times.

And then we heard the sad news about George Michael.  That was a blow.  I loved his music.  From Wham all the way through the Too Funky/Freedom days.  This was only compounded by the deaths of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds days later.  So sad for their family to lose them so close together.

Some family fun at lunch.  We hit up a local favorite for lunch the day after Christmas, Blackie's Bull Dog Tavern.  It's good comfort food.  If you find yourself in Northern Rhode Island you should check it out.

Monday night we decided we were going to have game night over at my sister's and then watch Monday night football as the Cowboys were playing.  Phillip and I ran to the store for dinner and snacks.  This native Texan was disappointed in the salsa selection, and with good reason.  We really don't have the options in Rhode Island that there are in Texas.

So. Many. Shopkins.  And she would ask me to play with her.  I am more than happy to play with my niece.  Dolls, games, other toys, but I just can't with the Shopkins for some reason.

top | jeans | booties

Tuesday night we went out to dinner with my parents, so I got a little more dressed up, including my favorite grey booties.  This particular print is out of stock, but J. Crew Factory has other colors and it's on sale!  $29.99 plus an extra 40% off (expires on January 3).

Little miss got some Build a Bears for Christmas so we took a ride to the mall on Tuesday.  My mom used to have a Westie, so she named her new one Callie, like my mom's dog.

And then of course the cat and the dog needed beds, so Auntie was the sucker in this equation and bought them.  #sigh #itshardwhentheyrecute

Wednesday night was out last night in town and we had dinner at my dad's house.  Little miss and I were being silly for the camera.

Friday night I made one of our favorites for dinner, pesto pasta salad.  I wanted something light since I knew we were going to be eating well on Saturday for New Year's Eve.

NYE we had lunch at his parents.  I had the brilliant idea to stop at Cake Bar for dessert for later that night #brilliant #theircakeistodiefor #neapolitan #oldfashionedchocolate

Cake Bar is at Trinity Groves, which is over the bridge from downtown Dallas.  This is the view from Trinity Groves.  Isn't it spectacular?  i never get tired of the Dallas skyline.  Day or night, I love it.

The weather in Rhode Island was a little chilly, so it was nice to return home to weather that we could keep the patio door open for.  Jack spent hours out there over the weekend.

Kate thought it was the perfect place to nap.

top | jeans | watch | necklace | bracelet

I love this top, especially that ruffle detailing around the collar!  How darling?  I've worn it with jeans but I also plan on wearing it with dress pants for work.  I love a versatile top, don't you?

dress (similar) | purse | shoes (similar) | watch | bracelet | necklace

We had NYE dinner reservations at one of our favorite steakhouses, The Keg.  It's fun to get a little dressed up.  This dress is so comfy.  It's no longer available, I bought it last year, but I linked to a similar one.

Here we are, all dressed up, ready to go celebrate the new year with dinner.  A year ago we took a similar picture before we went to dinner in Vegas.  Little did I know that my guy here was preparing to propose.  It's hard to believe that was a whole year ago.  This year went by so fast and there's less than 300 days until I get to marry this guy. #luckygirl

We were back from dinner by 9 or so and planned to make it to midnight, ha!  We played SkipBo (I won), we ate our cake, and then decided we were too tired and called it a night.  We're super early morning people, so getting to midnight is a little tough.

I know it's a super long re-cap but we were busy!  I hope you all had a restful, peaceful holiday season.  Come back Wednesday, I'll be talking about my goals for 2017 and I also have a giveaway....
