What's Up Wednesday

Happy Wednesday All!  It is the last day of September and we are one day away from my favorite month of the year - OCTOBER.  October is the height of Fall, it's also the month of my wedding anniversary, and I just think of fun sweaters, falling leaves, a crisp breeze in the air.  Is there anything better than October?

Before we get to October though, let's wrap up September, shall we?  I'm linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for What's Up Wednesday.

Life Lately

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  We were mostly low key, but did venture out to the Dallas Zoo for a couple of hours on Sunday.  Here's a peek at what life lately has looked like (COVID edition).

I feel like we are at this point in 2020 right now, especially because Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons.

These two have been Henry's favorite companions lately.  They alternate between his room and the living room.  They're soft and squishy and my kid has always been a sucker for a stuffed animal.

And We're Back! The Week Before the Wedding

And I'm back!  Thank you for understanding my need to take a break.  I had intended on picking back up last week with the blog, but I came back from the honeymoon with a sinus infection and was just trying to stay on track with everything #yuck #nothankyou

This week I've got posts on the week before the wedding, a Stella & Dot update (so many goodies!!!), a wedding post, and Five for Friday will be back with some holiday gift ideas!

So...the week before the wedding.

What's Up Wednesday!

For real?  We are already at the end of September?  That came up fast, didn't it?  I am excited though, October is my favorite month of the year - fall!  halloween! costumes! chocolate!  And now, going forward, the added bonus of my wedding anniversary.  But before we move on to October, let's wrap up September!

What We're Eating This Week

Tuesday - Phillip had a zucchini burrito and I had salad
Wednesday - Bread Zeppelin
Thursday - Soup
Friday - Turkey/Veggie Burgers with Sweet Potato
Saturday - not sure
Sunday - Lunch at Phillip's parents' house

Where I'm From, aka The Birthplace of Coffee Syrup

Isn't this a lovely picture of the Dallas Skyline?  I love it every time I catch a glimpse of it.  With as much as I love it, you would think I grew up here in the DFW area.  But I didn't.  The idea of living in Texas never even crossed my mind until 2010.  Texas is my adopted home but I grew up in the Biggest Little State in the Union - Rhode Island.

A Little About Me - What I Do

For those of you who are newer to the blog, I thought I would start a mini weekly series to help you all get to know me a little better.  As I am about to transition from one job to a new one, I thought I would tell you a bit about what I do and where I've done it!

To start, when I was a little girl I wanted to be a majorette.  My grandmother fundraised for the high school band and my uncle was the football coach, so I spent my younger years around the cheerleaders and majorettes and color guard.  I was like a mini mascot and thought it was what I wanted to be when I grew up.

Life Lately

Happy Monday!  I am enjoying a day at home today.  I'm contemplating going for a run in a bit.  The weather here is starting to cool down...well, what we consider cooler in Texas (not in the 90s anymore - hooray).

I can't even tell you how crazy it is around here.  So much going on.  Final wedding prep and details, more progress on the house, and the newest thing?  I start a new job in 4 weeks.  Yikes!  So crazy, but all of it good.  I am so excited about this new position, but it's bittersweet because I am sad about leaving my current place.  It's been a great place to work these last four years.  Here's a little peek into our crazy, upside down life last week!

Life Lately

Hi everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful July 4th holiday.  Ours was very low key, but very relaxing which is exactly how we like it.  This summer has been kicking my butt and I've been traveling or super busy most weekends and the summer hours at work are killing me during the week which means, I'm exhausted.  My plan for Friday was to sleep in a bit, but now I have to take Kate to the vet and she needs to be dropped off between 7:30 and 9.  Sigh.  So...what have we been up to lately?

Barre.  I still love Barre.  One of my favorite workouts.  Summer hours at work and all the travel are making it hard though.  Normally I get in 3-4 classes a week.  Lately it's been more like 2.  Which I hate.  After July, I should be back to my normal schedule.

This is my new favorite lunch.  These Thai veggie burgers from Trader Joe's are 4SP each and the sauce is 1SP for a tablespoon.  I will pair it with some leftover veggies or fruit for a very Weight Watchers friendly lunch.  And...the burgers are individually wrapped which makes packing them in my lunch bag easy.  #winning

Y'all.  Last week I did the impossible - I went into Target and I spent less than $5.00.  I didn't know that was a possibility.

Last Friday I had an appointment on my day off.  I love the dress, but I wanted a little more coverage for the meeting so I topped it with a white jacket and it worked perfectly.

The jacket makes it professional without the stiffness of a suit.  I love how it all came together.

After my meeting we relaxed on the couch for a bit.  She's been a little off her game lately and yesterday we noticed a lump at the base of her tail.  I'm taking her in to be seen on Friday and I hope everything is okay with my goofy girl.

When I can't get to barre, I try to get some kind of workout in.  On Friday I managed to get in a 21 Day Fix workout.  I've been doing these workouts for 2 years and I still enjoy them.

I snagged a couple of these while grocery shopping on Saturday.  I had a new recipe I wanted to try on July 4th.

These two.  Jack was just wanting to be snuggly and hopped up on the night stand.  That is normally Kate's perch when we go to bed and you can see her reaction to Jack stealing her spot.

On Sunday we were off to Canton!  Canton is home to First Monday Trade Days, the largest flea market in the US.  We were on the hunt for things for the house.  There are all kinds of things - antiques, refurbished items, handmade things, food, furniture, clothes, you name it.  It's enormous and fun.  And were we successful?

Yes we were!  We found this gorgeous table for our dining nook in the kitchen.  It is the perfect size and I LOVE the design.  We also found a couple of other things to hang on the walls - a key rack and a sign for above the pantry door.

I really wanted this guy for the yard but we wandered away thinking we'd come back for it but then couldn't figure out where it was (when I say this place is large, I mean LARGE).  Oh well...maybe next time.

We had to reconfigure the office a bit to store the table.  Which means this one is in her happy place.  She loves a high perch.

I took Monday as a vacation day and spent part of it working on wedding things, like thank you notes and invitations.  A lot of that busy work is taken care of.  Still so much to do, but we're getting there.

On Monday night we hit up the Red Sox/Rangers game!  We sat in our favorite section - up high behind home plate.  Texas ball games are HOT and sitting high up in that area affords shade and a breeze.  It was actually quite comfortable up there.  The Red Sox won - yay!!!  So I was happy and Phillip was a bit miffed.

Tuesday morning - July 4th - holiday!  We wanted to start the day off on a good note.  Phillip went for a run around the lake and I opted for the treadmill.  And then I forgot my keys on the treadmill when I walked out of the gym.  Our apartment complex is one of those that requires a fob for entry to every door and I was basically stuck.  It was early on a holiday, so no one else was around to let me in and I had to wait here in the hallway until Phillip finished his run.  #atleastitwasairconditioned

I am not normally a romper person, but this one!  Oh my gosh.  It's Lou & Grey from Loft and it is pretty much universally flattering.  So comfy and perfect for a summer holiday.  The plan was to run a few errands, make lunch, make dinner, make dessert, and watch fireworks.

ps - for those asking, this is the strapless bra I wear under all of my strapless, spaghetti strap, weird neckline tops.  It is hands down the best of the bunch.

Errand #1 - we stopped by the house.  Eeeks!  The framing is just about done.  It looks like a house now.  I want to move in tomorrow - ha!

romper | rebel pendant | parker sunglasses

Errand #2 - we had to stop at Kirkland's to pick up something I bought that was way to big for my Honda Accord.  I had to bring Phillip and the truck to get it home.  This is going in my office in the new house!  It took up the whole back seat.  I love the print though - it reminds me of summer in New England.

Lunch was one of our favorites, Pesto Pasta Salad.  And then I made this deliciousness for dinner.  Eggplant Rollatini.  It's only 6SP for 2!!!  Phillip and I both loved it.  It's definitely going into Sunday dinner rotation.

One of our July 4th traditions is that I make skillet brownies for dessert.  I make them in these adorable mini skillets.  Usually we have them with vanilla ice cream, but in trying to be healthier (and dairy free for me), we made banana "ice cream" instead.  We went with the chocolate peanut butter version and it was delicious, but nothing will ever compare to a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream.

The plan after dinner and dessert was to relax and then wander out to watch the fireworks on Lake Carolyn, but we were tired.  So we opted out of the fireworks and went to sleep.  It's hard when July 4th is in the middle of the week!  Knowing I was getting up at 4:40 to go to barre on Wednesday morning, all I kept thinking was that I was never getting to bed before 11 if we went out to the fireworks.  So we skipped it.  Oh well.  Maybe next year.  Saturday, I am off to Phoenix for 5 days as the summer of travel continues...

What's Up Wednesday

Can y'all believe it is almost July 4th!  Since it's the last week of June, that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday.  What's Up Wednesday is a peek into our life over the last month...here we go!

What We're Eating This Week

Monday - Zucchini and Bean Burritos
Tuesday - I'm meeting a college friend at Tortaco for dinner
Wednesday - Fish and Brussels Sprouts
Thursday - Grilled Chicken and Cauliflower
Friday - Turkey Burgers with Green Beans
Saturday - Not Sure Yet
Sunday - Not Sure Yet

What I'm Reminiscing About

dress | earrings

I am reminiscing about this past weekend!  I went home and my sister threw me a lovely wedding shower.  It was nice to celebrate with friends and family.  And hand with this cutie.

And I got to hold this handsome fella.  Oh he is just too dang cute!  Those cheeks!  And he is just content to be held and loved on.

What I'm Loving

Sleep.  Seriously, I had a lot of crazy weekends in June and I am loving catching up on sleep.

What We've Been Up To

We've started to get wedding presents in the mail, which just solidifies for me that the wedding is AROUND THE CORNER.  Holy cow.

I went on a cruise to celebrate my 40th birthday!

We went on a date night excursion to The Highland and had a fantastic dinner at Knife.

We had date night at the movies and saw Wonder Woman (we loved it).

I've been trying to get my workouts in.  These summer hours are tough.  I'm over them already (summer hours, not my workouts).

We had a division retreat at work which I spearheaded.  It went great!  But I am excited to have my regular work life back.

I had a bachelorette party!  Nothing too crazy.  We went bowling and dancing and just had a fun night out.  It was more about the company than anything else.

What I'm Dreading

The next four weeks of summer hours.  Sigh.  I'm done with the longer days.  It just throws me off my whole routine.

What I'm Working On

Wedding invitations!  I have five days off this weekend and one of those days will be devoted to putting together invitations.

What I'm Excited About

I've got a Sample Sale coming up.  Mainly Stella & Dot, but a few other accessories as well.

I've also got a trunk show tomorrow night.  If you'd like to be added to either event, please email me at nichole@themrsfisher.com and I will add you!

What I'm Watching/Reading

Oh Eddie Izzard, how I love you.  I've seen him live three times and he is just phenomenal.  Wicked smart.  And so funny.  Look up his Cake or Death bit on YouTube.  Watch it now, I'll wait.  Great, right?  His memoir reads just like him and I can't put it down.

And then I binge watched all 7 episodes of The Keepers while traveling this last weekend.  I could not stop.  Compelling does not even begin to describe it.  Watch it.  It's heart breaking and fascinating and so well done.

What I'm Listening To

Podcasts!  As usual, ha!  I've recently added a few to my roster and now I am listening to tons.  Recently added are: Sorta Awesome, 30 for 30 (yes, like the tv series by ESPN), Stuff You Should Know, The Daily, and Up First.

What I'm Wearing

top | skirt | valencia tote | hammered hoop earrings | wishing necklace

embarcadero scarf | dress | mini hammered hoops

top | shorts | sandals | luna pendant | valencia tote | hammered hoops

dress | taj clutch | hammered hoops | essential fringe | sculpted x cuff

What I'm Doing This Weekend

We might go to Canton, we'll see.  Also, see the aforementioned wedding invitation assembly.  I also foresee lounging by the pool and reading.  And barre.  Of course.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month

A trip to Phoenix for work, also a trip to Austin where some of plan on going to Salt Lick.  I cannot tell you how excited I am about this. Finalizing the last of the wedding details!  And we're seeing the Red Sox play the Rangers.  #gosox

What Else is New

Not much - but for real, go check out The Keepers!

What's Your Favorite July 4th Tradition?

Our July 4 is usually low key.  We cook dinner at home and just relax then we head across the street to Lake Carolyn for the City of Irving Fireworks.  Because we live there we don't have to stress about parking or driving anywhere and the fireworks are good.  The Irving symphony accompanies and it's a nice night.

See you Friday for Friday Favorites!
