Henry is Here!

This handsome boy made his appearance on July 16 and I can't believe it's been eight weeks already.  I thought that after two months, it was time to jump back into the blogosphere and what better way than with Henry's birth story!

I was scheduled to be induced on July 22, at 39 weeks.  I was still working and had decided that Tuesday, July 17 would be my last day.  I would take the rest of the week as vacation days and then start leave the day of my scheduled induction.  I wanted those days off to relax, straighten the house a bit and do some last minute things like get a pedicure.

I had been having contractions here and there, nothing steady or very strong.  I might wake up in the middle of the night with one, but another one wouldn't follow so I'd go back to sleep.  Monday night, July 15, I started having contractions in the middle of the night.  I had been sleeping on the couch (thanks pregnancy related restless leg syndrome) and realized around 1:45am that I should keep myself awake and start timing the contractions as they didn't seem to be going away.

By 3am they were 5 minutes apart, 1 minute long, and had been going on for an hour.  That was the point where I had to wake up Mr. Fisher and let him know it was time to head to the hospital.

At this point, I didn't tell anyone we were going, because I didn't know if we would be admitted and I didn't want people hanging on for updates if they weren't even going to admit us yet.  I'm glad I waited because after 2 hours of monitoring, and no change, they sent us home.

I immediately started having stronger contractions and by 8:30 am, they were about 3 minutes apart and much stronger so back to the hospital we went.  I was admitted at that point and then...nothing happened.

For real.  I was not progressing.  My doctor broke my water, they started pitocin and...nothing.  In the course of 8 hours I did not progress at ALL and the baby was not handling the pitocin well.  At 7pm, the doctor recommended a c-section since there was no progression and she thought that was best for baby and me.  We agreed and at 7:36pm, this little guy joined the world.

Henry Joseph Alexander Fisher

7pounds, 3 ounces and he was perfect

My c-section got me an extra night's stay in the hospital and let me tell you, the Labor and Delivery as well as the Post-Natal nurses were PHENOMENAL.  They were so good, especially our last night nurse.  I legit wanted her to come home with us, ha!

He was so little!  Oh my gosh, looking back over the pictures from those first weeks - I can't believe how small he was.

The first couple of weeks were rough.  I was carrying an extra 20 pounds of fluid in my legs from all the pitocin they pumped into me before and after the delivery.  I tried all the things - drinking lots of water, moving around, I couldn't get it to go anywhere.  I finally got a prescription for a diuretic from my doctor and that made all the difference.  I was starting to feel like myself again.

We spent a lot of those first weeks just snuggled up in the recliner in the living room.

The A&M onesie was a gift - when we cheer for a Texas team, we cheer for the Longhorns.  But he was still super cute in it.

Izzy often joined us for naps those first few weeks.

We had some put of town visitors those first few weeks.  My dad, brother, sister-in-law, and this cutie came when Henry was 2 weeks old.  My mom, stepfather, sister, and niece came for a visit when he was a month old.

We've been working on Tummy Time and he's getting better at his neck control.

We also have been cheering on the Buckeyes!

It's hard to believe that he's two months old already! He's 13 pounds and is 25 and a quarter inches long.  He loves bath time and play time on his mat.  He's generally a very happy baby.  He averages 8-9 hours of sleep per night which makes Mom and Dad very happy (and somewhat rested).

Dearest Nichole. This is oh so beautiful. And well of course, so is baby Henry😇. I am so glad I happened upon your incredible, beautifully written, blessed experience. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us. You (and of course Phillip and Henry) made my month; not just my day or week. We are hoping to see you all soon in November for Baby Henry's Christening. Thank you again Sweetheart ☺. Love you all, Pam xoxoxo
